High precision gear pumps for boosting and metering to maintain a constant high quality finished product.


Melt pumps (extrusion pumps, metering pumps or gear pumps) are installed in all applications in extrusion and compounding of plastics. Melt pumps are used to build up constant pressure and ensure constant output. The extruder screw is relieved, this enables a higher output power and increases the flexibility in different applications. Smooth, efficient and constant pumping of plastic melt through extrusion-die guarantees constant product quality and dimension. 

And its main purpose is to precisely control output to the die.
 
Melt pumps build pressure more effectively than a screw and provide more consistent pressure and volume of output than a screw. The extruder fills the gears from the suction side and the rotating gears discharge the polymer on the other side.
 
Melt pumps consist of two gears, usually driven by a single motor. The extruder fills the gears from the suction side , and the rotating gears discharge the polymer on the other side. The principle is that a well-made gear will have a very accurate profile, and when that gear is enclosed in a tight-fitting housing, the volume of plastic in each tooth will be very precise. As the gears turn they meter an exact amount of plastic on the discharge side. The speed of the gear rotation is closely controlled by an AC or DC drive designed for less than 1% variation.


 

The gear pump is a precise method to ensure constant polymer melt flow, which contributes to the highest quality output. Used in pumping, gauging and pressurizing all high/low viscosity plastic melt

In principle, all extruder melt pumps have the same design: two externally toothed gear wheels mate with each other when they rotate There are differences when it comes to the gear design itself: helical, spur and herringbone are the most common types. Anji  uses the helical type as this design is suitable for most applications and ensures a continuous and smooth process. In addition, the helical gear design features less friction and has better self cleaning characteristics.
There are also special executions of gear pumps for applications where frequent colour changes are required, for example in TPE compounding. Here the gear pump has a so-called "bleeding system" for drainage and the specific discharge of melt which is used for the lubrication of the bearings.
